This connector does not write prose and does not reason about your question — Claude does that. Its job is to expose good tools and honest data.
What it can answer
Nine New Zealand regional datasets, including Geographic Units by Industry
and Statistical Area (employee and business location counts, by industry
and area), GDP (by industry and region/district),
Road Accidents (by severity), Victimisations Time and Place
(recorded crime, monthly), population estimates, average house prices, inflation,
natural disaster cost, and air quality. list_datasets always has the
live, exact list. Not every dataset contains population figures, so the connector
will not compute a per-capita rate unless the population dataset is paired in
deliberately, as a second query, and labelled as its own arithmetic.
The tools Claude uses

Every query_dataset answer carries the query that ran, the unit,
the resolved scope, and any caveats — a snapped filter value, a dropped
partial year, a pinned grand total — so a figure is never quoted without
the context needed to trust it.

Adding the connector in Claude
In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom
connector and paste this server's URL with /mcp at the end.
Leave the OAuth fields blank — Claude discovers and registers itself
automatically. The first time you enable it in a chat, you'll be sent to a real
sign-in page on this hostname to create an account or log in.
Read-only, always
This connector only ever reads data. There is no free-text query tool and no way for Claude to write, modify, or delete anything through it.
